Welcome to Gabrielle Izen Design, home of beautiful greeting cards, stationery, artwork, commissioned work, personalised products and gifts all celebrating different occasions.
I’m an illustrator and modern calligrapher and create all my work by hand using traditional methods; dip pens, Japanese reed pens, Indian inks, watercolour paints, metallic paints and gold leaf. Typography is also used in some of my designs. I studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Chelsea School of Art and was very fortunate to have been taught by Quentin Blake.
I like to tell a story with my work, each artwork creates a mood or memory, all to be treasured. Plants and flowers, messages of love, friendship and kindness to finds on the beach and woodland walks are sources of inspiration. Time is taken to produce the work and the essence is to create a sense of well being in the home. I endeavour to create pieces that people love to give and receive.
I’m keen to support UK industry so all the print and production is done in Kent. The envelopes are made at a Yorkshire mill. They match the cards and are 150gsm, which give a feel of luxury. The paper stock is FSC accredited and carries the ISO 9706 ‘long life’ certification.
The paper waste is recycled or composted. The other waste is either recycled or incinerated at a steam power station in East Kent which generates electricity for the local area.
Most of the packaging I use is recyclable, from the sturdy envelopes, Jiffy bags to the waterproof mailers and biodegradable bubble wrap. The card and art print cellophane bags are not currently recyclable. I believe it’s possible to combine beautiful products with sustainability, and I’m proud to say my work is made in England.
