Gabrielle studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Chelsea School of Art and is fortunate to have been taught by Quentin Blake. She worked as an illustrator and editorial designer, as well as a part time calligraphy tutor, for several years before losing a very stressful design job. This was a call to follow her dream and set up as a designer/maker creating greeting cards, stationery, gifts and bespoke work from her small studio in Kent.
All the artwork is done by hand, using traditional methods of illustration, modern calligraphy and lettering; a variety of old dip pens, Japanese reed pens, brushes, Indian inks, water colour paints, gold paint and gold leaf. Typography is also used mixed with the calligraphy or lettering.
Gabrielle likes to tell a story with her work, and each artwork creates a mood or memory. All are to be treasured. She creates products for a variety of occasions from birthdays to friendship, anniversaries, celebrations and products to show love, appreciation, inspiration and just because…
Time is taken over the work, and Gabrielle endeavours to create original and beautiful pieces that people love to give and receive.
All the print and production is done in Kent. The envelopes, meanwhile, are made at a Yorkshire mill to match the cards. They are 150gsm, and give a feel of luxury. The card stock is FSC accredited and carries the ISO 9706 ‘long life’ certification.
The paper waste is recycled or composted. The other waste is recycled at a local steam power station, which generates electricity for the local area.
Gabrielle believes it’s possible to combine luxury with sustainability, and is proud to say her work is entirely made in England.
